Imaginative Play with Joy, Fun, and Humor

Programs We Are Involved With

  • Veterean Programs

Imagination Workshop has been leading workshops with New Directions for Veterans since 2002. Many sessions have culminated in productions such as the 2009 "Slice of Life" and the 2017 "The Wandering Knight". NDVets has successfully helped our nation's heroes successfully address the challenges of life after military service. Through Imagination Workshop, many participants get the opportunity to build camaraderie and community they may have lost after leaving the military.

  • Mentally Ill

The Thursday Night Playwriting Group, consisting of IW artists and psychiatric patients, the longest running current IW group (30 years without interruption) meets weekly at the UCLA Semel Institute Auditorium, continually writing and performing original theater works.

  • At Risk Youth

As part of the California Arts Council’s Artists in Schools program, IW artists lead at-risk high school students in weekly sessions of creative writing and acting exercises. In partnership with Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles, IW uses the creative and regenerative power of the theater to work with young people who live in the shadow of gang violence.

  • Seniors

At The Virginia House in Sherman Oaks, IW artists lead seniors in weekly theater workshops.
